SGPT or ALT Test is a part of the liver function test. SGPT or ALT test is done to assess the proper functioning of the liver by measuring the amount of serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase enzyme in the blood.

The normal range for SGPT or ALT Test lies between 7 to 56 units per litre of serum.

 

 

What do the deviations from the normal range indicate?

Higher values indicate: 

  • Liver damage (NAFLD – Fatty Liver)
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Cirrhosis
  • Liver Cancer
  • Pancreatitis
